About the Artists…

Gilbert Classical Academy Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra has been performing together since 2008 and is a combination of the top two instrumental music groups at the Gilbert Classical Academy in Gilbert, Arizona. At its conception, the symphony included select members of the Wind Ensemble, the top band, and the entirety of the Symphonic Strings, the top orchestra. As Gilbert Classical Academy grew, the Symphony Orchestra evolved to include all members of the Wind Ensemble.

The Symphony Orchestra performed together at a regional contest for the first time last year and was honored with an “Excellent” rating. Members of the orchestra have made all-state and central regional ensembles, have received “Superior” ratings in solo and ensemble competitions, and have participated in numerous area festivals, receiving several “Excellent” and “Superior” ratings. The group is under the direction of Jason Delfing and Rebecca Joslin.

Gilbert Classical Academy Chorale
The Gilbert Classical Academy Chorale was created in 2012. The Chorale performed at the Fall Choral Festival in Arizona receiving an “Excellent with Distinction” rating. They also performed at their first State Competition this past March. The group is under the direction of Rebecca Joslin, who joined the Gilbert Classical Academy music family in 2011.

Jason Delfing, conductor
Jason Delfing has been the Music Department Chair since the Gilbert Classical Academy opened in 2007. During his eight years he has taught band, orchestra, choir, jazz band and music theory classes at the Academy. Mr. Delfing graduated from Cleveland State University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in music education and received his master’s degree in education and administration from the University of Phoenix.

The Gilbert Classical Academy Bands have received ratings of “Excellent” and “Superior” in various festivals in Arizona. In 2011, the GCA Wind Ensemble received a “Gold” rating at the Forum Music Festival in California. Every year since 2010, Mr. Delfing has had at least one student participate in the competitive Arizona Music Educators Associations Central Regional Honor Band.

Mr. Delfing also serves as testing coordinator and website designer at GCA. In addition to his music teaching, he has coached junior high baseball, junior varsity and varsity baseball, junior varsity girls basketball, and junior varsity and varsity volleyball. Mr. Delfing has one sister who teaches Special Education students near Cleveland, Ohio.

Rebecca Joslin, director
Rebecca Joslin, a native of Tempe, Arizona, is completing her second year teaching choir and orchestra at Gilbert Classical Academy in Gilbert, Arizona. She graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree before coming to Gilbert Classical Academy.

As a violinist, Mrs. Joslin has participated in manygroups such as the Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra, the MusicaNova Orchestra, and the Allegro Quartet. As a pianist, she has accompanied various soloists, choral groups, and school ensembles. As a stage performer, she was most recently seen on the banks of the Mississippi River in Illinois performing multiple shows every day for an entire summer. In addition, Mrs. Joslin has served as a music theater instructor and occasional assistant music director for the prestigious Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix for six years.

As an educator, Mrs. Joslin’s choirs and orchestras have received ratings of “Excellent” in various festivals in Arizona. In both 2012 and 2013, her students auditioned into the Arizona Music Educators Association’s All-Regional Honor Orchestras. She currently serves as the Orchestra Chair for the Central Region in Arizona.

Mrs. Joslin currently resides in Tempe, Arizona with her husband and their one-year-old daughter.
