About the Artists…
The Dearborn High School Jazz Band performs four major concerts per year and also performs extensively in the Dearborn, Mich. community. The group performs before Motor City Brass Band Concerts, for the Henry Ford Village Community, and for various city of Dearborn functions.
The Jazz Band is made up of 17 dedicated and select members. They rehearse before school daily at 6:20 am. Through the jazz program, students develop an understanding of music history, theory, and improvisation skills needed to perform in a jazz ensemble. Jazz Band also provides students the opportunity to be creative and explore, as well as teaching the discipline and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in life.
Jeffery Oshnock continues to teach in the Dearborn School District, where he has been teaching since 1986. He currently directs the orchestras and bands at Dearborn High School, where he has been since 1992. Mr. Oshnock earned his Bachelors of Music from Michigan State University where he studied with Mark Johnson. He also holds a Master of Education from the University of Michigan. Mr. Oshnock is a member and officer of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
